The City of Independence
was founded in 1845 as pioneers from Independence, Missouri settled into a new life along the Willamette River. Today, the "city" retains an old-west charm and hospitality while meeting all our modern needs. We enjoy antique stores and great restaurants, as well as high-speed internet and nearby facilities such as the Monmouth Senior Center and Dallas Aquatic Center
. Oregon's state capitol Salem is only 15 minutes away.
In the summer, Independence hosts music and movies at the downtown Riverview Park. There are numerous other festivals and goings-on nearby all throughout the year. Don't miss the Buena Vista auto ferry, or the amazing butterflies, quails, and reptiles at Wings of Wonder
. Also, many wineries are making notable pinots around here...Willamette Valley has over 200 wineries
